"The Body is the Interface" - Richard Merritt

The Body is the Interface  project engages participants/artist in the act of creating a performance drawing and virtual sculpture.  Computationally, this process begins by first tracking body parts in three dimensions of space via an infrared camera. Then interpolating the location, speed and “smoothness” of the body in dynamic motion through an algorithm. Finally the software takes the information processed through the algorithm and displays the images in real time while also producing a virtual 3d object. In performance The Body is the Interface uses a wireless network to communicate between the computer and the digital projector.
