How to get the Visa to Australia

Citizens of some countries cannot enter Australia without valid Australia visa. Please, review the situation in your country. For short visit like conference, one should apply in the nearest Australian Embassy/Consulate for business visa with single entry option. Procedure is usually reduced to filling visa application and presenting the official invitation letter. After that it takes usually a week to issue a visa.

 

Another possible way is to apply a sightseeing visa to Australia. You may ask your travel agency to apply a sightseeing visa to Australia for you. In this case, you do not need the official invitation letter.

The conference venue will be in the City Campus, the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) which is located in the cosmopolitan heart of Sydney, close to the Central Railway Station, the Bus Transit Center, China-town with many restaurants of all styles and the Sydney Entertainment Center. The venue offers a fully integrated conference and exhibition facilities. A range of accommodation options within walking distance of UTS will be offered.

NOTE TO CGIV2010 DELEGATES (How to get to UTS from airport):   

 

The UTS City Campus is about 10km north of the International Airport, Sydney and it takes approximately 20 minutes for driving by a car. There are also a number of public transport alternatives, including catching Taxi, Train or Airport Express.

·         By Taxi

Each terminal has its own sheltered taxi rank with supervisors on hand in peak hours to ensure a smooth flow of taxis for travellers. It costs approximately A$25 from Airport to UTS. Taxi is recommended for those who carry large number of (or heavy) luggage.

·         By Train

There are railway stations located at both the International and Domestic Terminals. Airport Link is a fast and convenient way to reach UTS. Trains run approximately every 10 minutes and a journey into the city takes only 13 minutes. The train fare from International Terminals to Sydney city is AUD$ 15, from Domestic Terminals to Sydney city is AUD$ 15.

 

City campus, Broadway is close to the Central Railway Station. Delegates are recommended to get off the train at Centre Station. After alighting at Central Station take the eastern exits to Railway Square/George Street. Turn left at Railway Square and walk one block to the UTS Broadway campus which is on the right.

 

·         Shuttle and Mini Buses

The green and gold AIRPORT EXPRESS bus provides a fast, comfortable connection between both the Domestic and International Terminals, the City and Kings Cross. The service operates daily, along several fixed routes, from approximately 5am to 11pm.

Cost: One way $7 or return $12 (includes GST).

 

ROUTE 300 picks up passengers for Sydney City.

The Kingsford Smith Transport / Sydney Airporter service operates to all places of accommodation, such as hotels, bed & breakfasts and backpackers, in the Kings Cross, City and Darling Harbour areas.

Cost: One-Way AUD$8 for adults and $13 return (includes GST). AUD$4 for children (between the ages of 4 and 12)

Frequency: Every twenty - thirty minutes.

 

* Shuttle Buses

 

Many shuttle bus companies provide transport between the airport and most Sydney suburbs and regional areas. These buses need to be pre-booked. Check the Yellow Pages under "Bus and Coach Services" for the service to and from your area.

 

Airport Hotels also provide regular shuttle services for their guests. Confirm the services available with the hotels when making your reservation, or call into the Tourism NSW information desk in T1 International Terminal on Arrivals - Level 1.

Sydney Climate

Lying in the temperate zone of Australia, Sydney experiences four distinct seasons, with summer running from December to February and winter from June to August. Average temperatures range from around 12° Celsius (53° Fahrenheit) in the winter to 24° Celsius (75° Fahrenheit) in the summer with occasional days exceeding 30° Celsius (90° Fahrenheit). Being close to the ocean, hot days are often tempered by cooling sea breezes and balmy evening temperatures. The sea temperature ranges from 16° Celsius (60° Fahrenheit) in the winter to 22° Celsius (70° Fahrenheit) in the summer, and rainfall is lowest in the spring at 74 millimetres (three inches) per month and highest in the autumn with 126 millimetres (five inches) per month.
