HCI Symposium Theme -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HCI Designing of
Information Visualizations Proceedings: Published by IEEE COMPUTER SOCIETY
This symposium aims to
provide an international forum for the dissemination and exchange of
information on theoretical, generic, and applied areas of human-computer
interaction (HCI) and usability issues within the broader scope of
information visualization. The relationship between information visualization
and HCI is an increasing phenomenon, including concerns for virtual reality
and 3D environments, interaction, navigation, and information visualization
interfaces. The HCI Symposium seeks
original papers that deal with, but are not limited to, the following
thematic areas of research, both theory and practice: 1. Virtual
reality and 3D environments spaces
2. HCI
Education - Pedagogical theory or best practice
3. Management
of information visualization systems
4. Psychology
of HCI – Perception, cognition and related visualization domains
5. Data
mining and visualizing high dimensional data spaces
6. Knowledge
domain visualization
7. User
interfaces – New models and issues of interaction design and usability
8. Information
design and related visualization issues
9. Cross-cultural
interfaces and related issues
10. Internet
and 3D communities
11. Haptic devices
(input (tactile, auditory and olfactory)
HCI / IV papers should
clearly show an HCI component demonstrated through a theoretical underpinning
and/or usability testing. Symposium sessions will be broken down into 2 venue
formats: 1.
Papers: §
Theories and models:
Knowledge claims, history, education, or other theory-based issues can be
addressed; as well as innovative or provocative HCI issues that reflect a
substantial degree of analyses. §
Empirical studies: Recent,
current, or proposed research studies that show observational (qualitative
&/or quantitative) findings; as well as field studies and ethnography
related to interactive systems. §
Methodologies, tools, and
techniques: New forms of evaluation or processes for assessing interactive
systems, including their design, building, and deployment. §
Products: Discussion and
description of new interactive systems for any range of usage; including
their system design, interface, and evaluation. 2.
Panel session (90 min.) §
Engaging series of short
talks of a common topic and particular audience. Formats can include all or
portion of the following with any combination of media: roundtable
discussions, debates of opposing views, interviews or focus groups,
demonstrations, and audience interaction / participation. Proposals for a
panel much include: topic, abstract, and persons involved. IV07-HCI Advisory and Programme
